Join the McKinney Citizens Fire Academy
Whether you dream of becoming a firefighter or simply want to better understand how your local fire department works, the McKinney Citizens Fire Academy is the perfect place to start. This free, hands-on course takes place over six Thursday evenings is open to McKinney residents.
Participants gain a behind-the-scenes look at the operations of the McKinney Fire Department through exciting and immersive experiences:
- Climb a real fire truck ladder
- Extinguish a car fire in full bunker gear
- Rappel from a 5-story building under firefighter supervision
Led by experienced McKinney firefighters, these activities are designed to showcase the skill, bravery, and quick thinking required in emergency response roles. Whether you’re exploring a possible career or simply seeking a unique community experience, this program is unforgettable.

Antique Fire Truck Restoration – 1924:
Help restore a vital piece of McKinney’s firefighting legacy. The 1924 LaFrance Fire Truck served the city until 1979 and now resides in the McKinney Fire Museum. Your gift helps repair and preserve this historic vehicle for future generations.

Neighborhood Heros AED Program
Help place more Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in public spaces, neighborhoods, and key community areas throughout our city. These devices are critical in increasing the chances of survival during sudden cardiac arrest.
